Law of Attraction: 3 Steps to Raising Your Vibration

If you’ve spent any time around here or any of the various online spots which I frequent, you likely know about the Law of Attraction. If you’re new to it, though, what it breaks down to is this. Everything is energy and in a constant state of vibration. Well, you are no different. Each one of us vibrates at our own specific frequency, and we attract whatever matches our vibration.

Our thoughts and beliefs are a BIG factor that shapes our personal vibration. In fact, in his book The Success Principles, Jack Canfield states, “through your deliberate thoughts, you can bring yourself into vibrational harmony with (and attract) anything you desire.”

He also goes on to share the three-step process that we can use to manifest what we want in our lives.

Step One: Ask for what you want, NOT for what you don’t want.

We can easily be tripped up by this one. For instance, have you ever said to your kids or your spouse, “don’t forget [fill in the blank]”, and they end up forgetting it anyway?

Now, this could boil down to the fact they are naturally forgetful, but in this example, we reinforce exactly what we don’t want. Instead, we could say, “remember, we have [insert event] tonight.” This helps to reinforce what you do want in their minds and to the Universe, rather than what you don’t want.

Not only is this something that I’ve been working on with myself – focusing on what I want, rather than what I don’t want – but I’ve been working on it with my youngest daughter.

She is a very creative individual, chock full of imagination, but like me, she sometimes uses that imagination to her detriment. She is something of a worrier and has been known to cause herself stomach pain as a result. So, I’m doing my best to teach her these helpful principles early on in her life.

For instance, she is in the marching band. Recently, she was musing on an upcoming event. She said to me, “I hope I don’t mess up during our performance.” Given what I, myself, have learned and am trying to pass on here, I suggested focusing on “I hope I do well during the performance” or “I will do well during the performance.” The energy goes from a low vibrational energy of dread to a higher vibration of hope and confidence.

Step Two: Believe that you’ll get what you want, then take action

This step could be considered a two step process. Believe what you want is possible and that you will get it, then take action on that belief.

Jack Canfield explains believing you’ll get what you want like this: “It means maintaining a positive expectancy, going about your day with certainty – knowing that you’ve put your future in the hands of powers that are greater than yours.” “It’s deciding that what you want will absolutely happen.”

This can be a difficult step to master. Any limiting beliefs we have, whether conscious or unconscious, will make it pretty difficult for us to achieve.

Take for instance waiting for the other shoe to drop. I had challenges with that, myself.

I grew up in a rather volatile house. I never knew when things would erupt, so I was always on guard.

As an adult, I lowered my defenses. I felt safe, but there were instances when I just didn’t see the explosion coming. So, I went back on guard.

It took a good friend of mine, who is a psychic and medium, telling me that I could stop waiting, it was over and wasn’t coming to lower my guard again. It was then that I really started looking at what I wanted, rather than what I feared would occur. I started to believe that I could get what I want and am now taking massive action.

Step Three: Receive what you want by becoming a vibrational match for it

So, you remember how I mentioned everything is energy, right? And it’s in a constant state of vibration? Well, in order to attract what we desire into our lives, we must match its vibration. Like attracts like.

Jack Canfield gives this example in The Success Principles, “You are like a radio station that is broadcasting on a specific frequency. If you want to listen to jazz, you have to tune your dial to a station that broadcasts jazz, not one that plays heavy metal. If you want more abundance and prosperity in your life, you have to tune the frequency of your thoughts and feelings to ones of abundance and prosperity.”

In other words, if you do want abundance and prosperity in your life, you cannot tell yourself or others how “broke” or “poor” you are. It’s just not going to attract what you desire. You’ll keep getting more of the same.

I can hear you now, “well, that’s all well and good, Dawna, but I am broke and poor. That’s my reality. What am I supposed to do? Lie to others? Lie to myself?”

Your mind doesn’t know the difference between ‘reality’ and ‘make believe’. It doesn’t know the difference between actually doing something and visualizing it. It’s easily tricked, but it is also the greatest tool available to us when re-creating our ‘reality’.

Affirmations

Affirmations are a GREAT tool toward this end. Our mind will believe whatever we tell it. So, throughout our day we bombard it with those things that we desire to see manifest in our lives, rather than what we do not want.

“An affirmation is a statement of your goal or desire – now realized in present time. They are statements you can write down, then repeat regularly, to bombard your subconscious mind with the thoughts, images, and feelings you would be experiencing if your goal was already complete,” states Jack Canfield.

Affirmations are always stated in present-tense.

For instance, one that I use is “I’m feeling light and alive at my perfect body weight of 135.” (Our minds also really like it when it rhymes.)

And when you use them, you want to visualize them as though you’ve already achieved them. Feel the feelings. Smell the smells, if there are any. Hear the sounds. See the people around you. As I said, your mind is easily fooled. If we’re able to visualize something clearly enough (or through whatever sense is strongest for you) and often enough, it can be fooled into believing that it is your current reality. It will then do everything in its power to bring it to you.

Appreciation and Gratitude

I shared not too long ago my experiences while going through the book The Magic by Rhonda Byrne. It submersed me into almost a month of gratitude practices. If you’ve not read this book, I still highly recommend it.

While I’ve not stuck with all the practices, I have stuck to some of them, and consciously work to keep myself in an “attitude of gratitude”.

It’s through appreciating and feeling gratitude for the things that we do currently have in our lives that we raise our vibration. We get it to a frequency where we start attracting more things into our life for which to be grateful.

In The Success Principles, Jack Canfield also suggests a technique that Esther and Jerry Hicks call the “Rampage of Appreciation”. It’s super simple. You just look around you and notice something that “pleases you”. Keep your attention on it while thinking about how wonderful or useful or beautiful it is. Just continue observing it as you feel your appreciation for it expand. Stay in that space for awhile before choosing another object to appreciate. Essentially, what you are conveying to the Universe is, “yes! More of this, please!”

So, that’s all there is to it!

Sounds really easy, doesn’t it? And maybe for some of you, it will be. Others… not so much. But, with practice, we can all master these skills and trigger a rippling effect in the world.
